Chinchillas
Chinchillas are not for everybody and certainly not for children. They can become very tame with caring and patient manner. They are beautiful creatures and ever so soft to touch.
I started with three of what I thought was all females but we found out that Mandy was in fact, Matthew the hard way - through babies. The first kit, Mary was Milly's and although she was a good mother for the first couple of days, she soon started to ignore the baby, leaving her alone for too long. Sadly, nothing could be done to stop the death of Mary. As both Milly and I were too inexperienced.
During this time, Matthew had been separated from the females and was taken to the vet for a 'snip'. The introduction of getting all of the chinchillas back into the group, after Matthew had the snip, was long and hard as most chinchillas' owners would know as this is not something that could be done easily and quickly but eventually after about three weeks, they were all together, living happily.
Of course, Molly gave birth during the weeks of the introduction to a beautiful little girl, March.
Matthew is a handsome boy and is very protective of all of his girls and he would cuddle up to every one of them.
Molly is a smashing mother to March, always staying with her and even when she was weaned - she would still fuss over her daughter.
Milly is very curious and will often be the first one to come running to the door, asking for a treat and surprising she become a great aunt to March, she would look after her when Molly is eating or drinking for brief moments.
March is very bold and just loves to eat - she will often steal everybody's food from their paws and run off with it. She is a cute and amusing addition to the chinchilla group.
